(Class of ’95)

By Andrea Evans

Kathleen Le Mons agreed to take one business class along with her husband at Christopher Newport University. Graduating magna cum laude and attaining membership in Alpha Chi, an academic honor society at CNU, kept her on the fast track that eventually led to an advanced degree at the College of William and Mary.

“I can’t talk about my time at CNU without crediting faculty members who went out of their way to help me,” said Mrs. Le Mons. Dr. Robert Coker is a longtime friend and mentor, and Dr. Jay Paul assisted with her induction into the honor society.

She recalls her first business class with Dr. Mayes Matthews. “It was Organizational Behavior. We studied many classics like Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, things that I use on a regular basis, still. Dr. Matthews made the material come alive. He’s entertaining, likeable and cares deeply about his students.” She said she still stays in contact with Dr. Matthews for important advice and recommendations.

The founder of Le Mons Wealth Management Group, Mrs. Le Mons is the Senior Vice President – Investment Officer of Wachovia Securities.

She is an accredited asset management specialist who helps clients by offering sound professional advice, management of investments and comprehensive financial services. She personally manages more than $95 million in client assets.

She and husband, Jeffery Benedict, have been married for 15 years and live in Smithfield.
