Letter from Alumni President, Janet Barker
Dear Fellow Alumni:
When was the last time you visited your campus? If it has been a while, you are in for the surprise of your life. The Ferguson Center for the Arts is a world-class venue that has hosted performances by talented artists such as Andrea Bocelli and David Copperfield as well as our own Virginia Symphony. You don’t have to worry about parking. There is an attractive parking garage that adjoins the Center for your convenience in going to and from the performance. The former Shoe Lane entrance to campus is now a lovely green lawn. A brand new student union and library will soon debut. Nearly 3,000 students now live on campus in the many new residence halls and the new apartments in CNU Village. The architecture is neo-Georgian and absolutely breathtaking.
We now have approximately 14,000 Alumni, and the number is growing rapidly. The addition of the football program and a marching band was exciting, and the growth continues with lacrosse this year. We have added several new athletic fields including POMOCO Stadium and new baseball and softball stadiums to support excellence in athletics.
The typical student applying to CNU now has a GPA of 3.4 and an average SAT score of 1165. Our students are studying abroad and making meaningful contributions to society. All of these accomplishments are increasing the value of your diploma.
This University has provided a wonderful education for us all and has enhanced our ability to succeed in our professional endeavors. I appreciate the caliber of students who are graduating from CNU and joining our work force and our community. They are intelligent, they are professional, and they are eager to change the world. We hire quite a few CNU students at Northrop Grumman Newport News, and I am very proud of the contributions they make, of their abilities and most importantly their character and work ethic.
I believe in our school, and I believe in what it stands for and the many great accomplishments that have been made. Please come back and be a part of our events. Take a stroll around campus or even a tour. Check with our Alumni Office when planning a trip to campus and be our guest at an event. Our University is growing at an unbelievable pace, and we desperately want you to be a part of that growth. Watch for a very important announcement regarding Alumni this fall. I can’t say what it is right now, but let me strongly suggest that you make plans now for Homecoming and DO NOT MISS IT. Save the date – Oct. 21, 2006.
